Coachella 2027 Survival Guide: What to Know Before You Go

Coachella 2027 lands at the Empire Polo Club in Indio on April 9–11 and April 16–18. Same field, same two-weekend structure, same identical headliners across both weekends. As of publication in August 2026, the lineup has not been announced. Goldenvoice has historically dropped it somewhere between the fall and mid-January, and advance passes already sold out back on May 1, so if you don't have one you're shopping resale or the waitlist.

That's the news portion of this page. Everything below is the part nobody tells you until you're standing in a dust cloud at 11pm wondering where your friends went.

What to Pack for Coachella

The single most useful thing you can carry is an empty plastic water bottle, 64 oz or smaller. Coachella runs free, twice-filtered refill stations throughout the venue and the campgrounds. People buy bottled water all weekend and it is a tax on not reading the rules.

Bags have to be 18" x 13" x 8.5" or smaller. Sunscreen must be non-aerosol. Hats, sunglasses, and handheld fans are fine. Bring a battery pack, because you will burn your phone down hunting for signal.

Now the part that actually catches people at the gate. Prohibited items are confiscated and not returned, no matter what a staffer tells you in the moment. The list includes weapons of any kind, pepper spray and mace (concealed-carry permits do not exempt you), cannabis and cannabis products, drones, umbrellas, chairs, coolers, glass or metal containers, outside food and drink, professional cameras with detachable lenses, bikes, scooters, skateboards, and hoverboards.

The sneaky one: advanced first aid kits are banned. Tourniquets, hemostatic gauze, compression bandages, chest seals. Well-meaning people pack these and lose them. Basic bandages and your labeled prescriptions are fine, and the medication name has to match your ID.

Where to Stay (Camping vs. Hotels)

Camping is the cheapest way in and the most committed. For 2027, standard Car Camping runs $160 for the weekend ($40 per night) plus transient occupancy tax, and your festival pass is separate. Preferred Car Camping, which guarantees you a spot in the lot closest to the entrance, is $420. Preferred Front Row is $520. New this cycle, Powered Car Camping at $620 adds a power outlet and upgraded restrooms and showers, which is the first genuinely useful camping upgrade in years. Group Car Camping is also new for 2027, letting a group of ten or more cars hold adjacent spots in Lot 5A and arrive separately.

If you want a bed, Ready-Set Tent Camping starts at $690, and the La Campana climate-controlled bell tents with real beds run $2,600 to $3,300 for the weekend. Camping Companion Parking, if a second car is coming, is $210.

All campground attendees must be 18 or older with ID. There is no Thursday parking at all without a camping or companion pass, and non-camping vehicles left overnight get towed after 2am.

The honest tradeoff: camping means you walk to the gates and can cook your own food, and it also means sleeping in heat and dust on maybe four hours a night. Getting In & Parking

Three ways in, and they are not equal.

The shuttle is $150 round trip for the weekend, bookable through Valley Music Travel with pickup stops scattered across the valley. Bundled with a GA pass at purchase it saves you $20. There's also a separate LAX shuttle if you're flying in. The catch is that shuttles stop running one hour after the music ends, so a shuttle pass means you leave on the festival's schedule, not yours, and the post-headliner queue is real.

Driving yourself means Preferred Parking at $299 for the weekend, which enters through the north gate. Check the current parking page before you commit, because general-lot rules shift year to year.

Rideshare is the flexible option and the expensive one. The lot closes at 3am. Surge pricing from Palm Springs at peak has run $80 to $160 each way, and doing that four times over a weekend costs more than the shuttle pass by a wide margin.

Surviving the Heat

April in Indio is not summer, but it is not mild either. Average highs climb through the month from the mid-80s into the low 90s, and it has broken 100 during festival weekends. The number people underestimate is the low: nights fall into the 50s and 60s, and standing still in a field in a mesh top at midnight is genuinely cold.

So: dress in layers you can tie around your waist, or use the locker rentals. Wear shoes you have already broken in, because you will walk eight to twelve miles a day on grass, gravel, and packed dirt. Reapply sunscreen at least twice during daylight — the desert sun at that hour is not negotiable.

Drink before you're thirsty. Alternate water with everything else. The medical tents spend their entire weekend on heat exhaustion and it is almost always the same story: no breakfast, no water, six hours in direct sun.

Food & Water Strategy

Water is free at the refill stations. Food is not, and it is not cheap, though Coachella's food program is genuinely good by festival standards and worth a stop rather than living on fries. Eat a real meal before you go through the gates. The single best move at the festival is a proper sit-down meal in the shade around 4pm, which resets you for the night and keeps you out of the worst of the sun.

Campers, this is your edge. You can bring your own food and cook it at your site, and Lake Eldorado has a communal cooking area. Over three days, that's a meaningful chunk of the budget back.

Pool Parties & Afterparties

Coachella weekend generates an entire shadow festival across the valley. Brand-hosted day parties, hotel pool takeovers, and the big Saturday-night desert parties are all separate businesses with separate tickets, and none of them are run by Goldenvoice. They change year to year, they announce late, and the good ones sell out or go invite-only fast.

The practical advice is unglamorous. Pick one, not four. The day party plus a full festival day plus a 2am afterparty is a schedule that looks great on Wednesday and destroys you by Saturday. And if you're pool-partying in Palm Springs and headlining in Indio the same day, you've just signed up for two hours in a car.

If you want the pool-party version of Palm Springs without the festival crush, come back in the summer instead. It's cheaper, it's emptier, and nobody is checking a wristband.

The Two-Weekend Question

Same lineup, both weekends. Weekend 1 is the one with the celebrity presence, the brand activations at full tilt, and the higher price. Weekend 2 is $50 cheaper on GA, marginally less crowded, and the sets are usually tighter because the artists have already done a dress rehearsal in front of 100,000 people.
