The Best Dog-Friendly Hotels in Palm Springs

Palm Springs markets itself hard as a dog town, and mostly it earns that. What the marketing skips is that "pet-friendly" here spans a range from no fee, no limits, bring three to $200 per dog per night, and the hotel websites are not always the place where that becomes clear.

No-Fee Dog-Friendly Hotels

There is one obvious winner and it isn't close.

Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs, 100 W Tahquitz Canyon Way, charges nothing. No pet fee, no deposit, no cleaning charge, no weight limit, no breed restriction, and no cap on how many animals you bring. Dogs and cats both. They will leave branded treats and a toy in the room, and — unusually — pets may be left unattended.

It is also the tallest building downtown with the best rooftop bar in the city on top of it, so this is not a case of the free option being the sad option. If you are travelling with a large dog, or two dogs, or a dog and a cat, start here and don't overthink it.

Best Dog-Friendly Resorts

The Saguaro Palm Springs, 1800 E Palm Canyon Drive, is the best value of the design hotels. A one-time $50 fee per pet and a signed waiver, dogs and cats accepted, and no published weight limit. The catch is spatial: no animals at the pool, in the restaurants, or in the bar areas except service animals — and the pool is the entire reason people stay at the Saguaro. Dogs also may not be left in rooms unattended.

Practically, that makes it a good base for a trip built around hiking and walking, and an awkward one for a trip built around lounging.

The Parker Palm Springs, 4200 E Palm Canyon Drive, is the most genuinely dog-oriented property in the city and the most expensive way to prove it. Dogs of any size, no breed restrictions, bowls and treats provided, waste bags and a grassy relief area on 13 acres of Jonathan Adler-designed grounds you could happily walk a dog around for an hour. The fee is $200 per pet, per night, on top of a $50 nightly resort fee. Dogs cannot be left unattended.

Ace Hotel & Swim Club, 701 E Palm Canyon Drive, charges $100 per stay for up to two pets, plus $50 for a third, three maximum. Two conditions matter and both are easy to miss: all pets must be under 25 lbs, and pets are only allowed in rooms with patios. Water bowls are provided and there's a small fenced relief area. A pet waiver gets signed at check-in, and there's a $45 nightly resort fee regardless.

La Quinta Resort & Club, 49-499 Eisenhower Drive in La Quinta, is worth knowing about if you want space rather than scene — 45 acres of casitas and pools about 30 minutes down-valley. Two pets maximum, 75 lbs or under, with a fee in the region of $150 per stay.

Two properties in the registry that people ask about and that do not take dogs: Korakia Pensione accepts licensed service animals only and will refer you to local boarding, and Descanso Resort does not accept pets at all.

Dog Parks Near Hotels

David H. Ready Palm Springs Dog Park, 222 N Civic Drive, sits directly behind City Hall and is walkable from downtown hotels including the Rowan. It's 1.6 acres of fenced grass with separate large- and small-dog sides, shade structures, solar lighting, and dual-height water fountains. Open 6am to dusk. The solar lighting is the underrated feature — in summer, an 8pm visit is the only civilised one.

Demuth Park Dog Park on East Mesquite Avenue is the better bet if you're staying in the south end near the Ace, Saguaro, or Parker. Big grass run for large dogs, separate fenced small-dog area, recently renovated with new shade and fencing, dawn to dusk. The grass-and-decomposed-granite surface drains properly, so it doesn't turn to soup after a winter storm.

Booking Tips for Traveling With Dogs

Book the pet on the phone, not the website. Several of these properties limit dogs to specific room types — the Ace's patio-room rule is the clearest example — and a room booked online without flagging the dog can be reassigned or refused at check-in.

Confirm whether the fee is per night, per stay, or per pet. All three exist in this town and the wording online is frequently ambiguous.

Ask about unattended-in-room rules before you book, not after. If you cannot leave the dog, your dinner options narrow to patios, and that is a real constraint on a five-day trip. Palm Springs has more dog-friendly patios than almost anywhere, so it's workable — but only if you've planned for it.

Assume asphalt is the enemy. From May through September, pavement and parking lots retain enough heat well past sunset to burn paw pads. Ground-floor rooms with direct patio access to grass are worth paying for; hotels where the only route outside crosses a hot parking lot are not.

Bring more water than you think. The humidity here runs in single digits. Dogs dehydrate faster than their owners notice, and the visible signs arrive late.
